Oldham’s Men’s Table Tennis Team of Darryl Meredith, Ian McLean, Philip Myers and David Buckley made an encouraging start in the Premiership of the Lancashire and Cheshire League. After a 6 – 0 victory over Halton they drew 3 – 3 with Bolton before suffering a 4 – 2 defeat by Liverpool. The highlight of the day was the unbeaten performance of Darryl Meredith.

Division 1

Rosehill A’s David Pegg had 3 excellent wins against Aerospace A. Aerospace replied with 2 wins each from Tony Bates and Tony Smith.

Rosehill B left Holinwood C still looking for their first win of the season. Rosehill won 6 – 4 with John Flowers winning three sets for the losers.

Hollinwood A and YMCA A still remain unbeaten after sharing the points in a 5 – 5 draw. Wayne Renton and Jon DePledge won two sets each for Hollinwood with Steve Lyons winning two for Hyde YMCA.

Honeywell A are still looking for their first win of the season after drawing with Aerospace B.

 Division 2.

A Paul Wilkinson treble helped Werneth C to a 7 – 3 victory over First Transport.

A similar performance from Ron Mitchell enabled Hollinwood E to draw 5 – 5 with Honeywell B.

For Grotton A Philip Schofield marked his debut with three wins in Grotton’s 7 – 3 victory over Honeywell C.

Pennine recorded their first win of the season with two wins each for Glen Chadwick and John Robertson and one for Tony Jones. Rob Carter replied with three wins for Failsworth A.

Unison B defeated Hollinwood D 6 – 4 with an unbeaten performance from John Maher.

Division 3

In the inter club match between Failsworth B and Failsworth C the B team ran out 8 – 2 winners with Matty Evans unbeaten.

Gilders A got the better of Unison D 7 – 3, in a match closer than perhaps the score suggests. Adi Ewelia maintained his unbeaten record and Dennis Heyes won two games for the losers.

In another match closer than the score suggests Coldhurst B defeated Honeywell E     9 - 1 with Simon Walsh and John McLoughlin unbeaten.

Paul Woodward was unbeaten for Oldham Owls A in their 8 – 2 victory over Honeywell D.

Division 4

Coldhurst E defeated OTTC B 7 – 3 with Neil Chapman unbeaten and David England scoring two wins on his return from France. Jordan McNamara recorded two wins for OTTC B.

In   a very close match Werneth E got the better of Honeywell C 6 – 4.  Dave Renton was unbeaten for Werneth.

In another battle between Werneth and Honeywell, their respective F teams shared the points in a 5 – 5 draw. Alan Wynne gave an outstanding performance for Werneth.

The ever-improving juniors from Rosehill C shared the points with Failsworth E with three wins from Ashley Murray and one each from Danny Nelson and John Baxendale. Alan Nightingale and Dave Murphy replied with two wins each for Failsworth E.

Uppermill C defeated Owls B 6 – 4 with an outstanding win in the final game of the night, the doubles. Uppermill came from six match points down to win the final game   13 – 11.

Hyde YMCA Remain unbeaten

 

Division 1

 

Hyde YMCA A continued their move p the division with an 8-2 victory over Rosehill B. Steve Lyons & Geoff Ogden winning 3 each.

BAE A still top the division after a draw at OTTC A.

Glodwick remain in second spot after a 7-3 victory at Rosehill A.

Last years champions Werneth A moved into the top half after an 8-2 win at Hollinwood C.

 

Division 2.

 

First Transport moved into second place with an 8-2 victory at Hollinwood D. Ken Hayes being unbeaten for Transport.

Unison A shared the points with Hyde YMCA B, Nick Bakewell winning his three for Hyde.

 Werneth C extended their lead at the top of the division after beating Honeywell C   9-1. Douglas Hill & Karen Hill being unbeaten.

In the mid-table clash Honeywell Lane B defeated Uppermill B 8-2.

Grotton A stay in contention with an 8-2 win against Hollinwood E.

 

Division 3.

 

Werneth D remain top of the division after a 6-4 victory at Coldhurst B. Alan Wynn & Alan Else had 2 wins each for Werneth D but the unbeaten performance by Simon Walsh was not enough for Coldhurst to avoid defeat.

Gilders A remain second after a 7-3 victory over Coldhurst C.

Honeywell E and Gilders B were involved in an excellent match, which Honeywell won 7-3, with David watts being unbeaten.

Honeywell E could not repeat the feat against their D team, going down 7-3 even though David Watts was again unbeaten.

 

Division 4.

 

Coldhurst E remain top after an 8-2 win at Werneth E.

Coldhurst D are only one point behind after their 10 –0 win against Rosehill C.

Rosehill C had previously held the Coldhurst F team to a draw with 3 wins for Ashley Murray and 2 for Daniel Nelson.

Honeywell F remain in third spot after an 8-2 win at OTTC B.

In the mid table clash Saddleworth CC defeated Honeywell G 10-0, while Owls B were 7-3 victors over Failsworth F

BAE A STAY TOP

 

Division 1.

 

BAE A and Glodwick maintained their position at the top of the Division with 9-1 & 8-2 wins respectively over Honeywell Lane A and OTTC A.

Hollinwood A are still unbeaten after drawing with Rosehill A. Simon Hardwick was unbeaten for Hollinwood A with Phil Ashworth and Dave Pegg replying with 2 wins each for Rosehill A.

Werrneth B lost their unbeaten record after going down 7 – 3 to Hollinwood B.

 

Division 2.

There are three teams sharing top spot after Unison A defeated Honeywell B 10-0. Honeywell C got the better of Hollinwood D 6-4 and Werneth C were 10 –0 victors over Hollinwood F.

At the other end of the table, Pennine remain bottom after going down to a 9-1 defeat at First Transport.  

 

Division 3.

There are two teams sharing the top spot in this division after the top two teams met, with Unison C coming out 7-3 victors over Grotton B A. Mike O’Gara being unbeaten for Unison C.

Adeniyi Ewelia is showing his class after another 3 wins for Gilders Tackle A.

 

Division 4

Lowly Saddleworth CC gave leaders Coldhurst E a fright before going down 7-3 in an excellent game of Table tennis.

Coldhurst D are in second spot after a 7-3 victory over Owls B. Murray Corbin registering 3 wins for Coldhurst while Dinesh Gorasia had 2 wins for Owls.

In a mid table clash between Honeywell F and Werneth E honours remained even, mainly thanks to a John Kershaw treble for Honeywell.

 

Lancashire & Cheshire League.

Oldham Ladies made an excellent start to their campaign, beating Blackpool & Manchester 5-1 and Barrow 4-2 before drawing with Bolton.

Werneth D hit top spot.

 

Division 3

Werneth D moved into top spot with a convincing 9-1 victory over Gilders Tackle B. Mick Pellowe and Alan Else were unbeaten while Julian Minshall had two wins. Grotton B moved into third place after a hard fought 9 -1 victory at Unison D, Alf Barker and Alan Sarsfield were unbeaten with Steve Smith winning two sets. For the losers Dennis Hayes, Frank Sheldon and Roger Jagger all contributed to an excellent nights table tennis.

Gilders Tackle A maintained their challenge with an excellent 7-3 victory at Honeywell D.

 

# Saddleworth Raphael’s have dropped out of Division 3.

 

Division 1

Aerospace A extended their lead at the top with a 9-1victory at Hollinwood B. Werneth B maintained their unbeaten start to the season with an 8-2 victory at Hollinwood C. Phil Myers was unbeaten for Werneth B while Phil Holmes was the only winner for Hollinwood.

Hyde YMCA shared the points with Oldham OTTC A. Junior Rebekah Griffiths had two excellent wins against Terry Taylor and Steve Lyons.

Uppermill A defeated Rosehill B 6-4 in another closely fought contest, with Glen Hewitt being unbeaten.

 

Division 2

Werneth C have moved into second place after a 9-1 victory over Uppermill B, with maximum contributions for Bernard Davies and Paul Wilkinson.

Pennine stay bottom of the table despite an excellent performance against table topping Honeywell C.

Hyde YMCA B defeated Unison B 8-2, with three wins for Nick Bakewell and two wins each for Dennis Bradshaw and Anthony Gummersall. John Maher replied with two wins for Unison B.

 

Division 4

The youngsters of Rosehill C are certainly showing improvement after going down 7-3 to Honeywell G. Ashley Murray with two wins and Daniel Nelson with one win were the winners for Rosehill C, while John Ganley was unbeaten for Honeywell G.

Coldhurst E dropped their first points of the season after an 8-2 victory at Failsworth E.

Werneth F and Coldhurst D were involved in a hard fought 5-5 draw. Alan Wynn had three wins for Werneth F.

 

 

#  Lancashire and Cheshire League

There were mixed results for Oldham Veterans Teams.

The A went down 8-2 to a strong Macclesfield side. The B team won 8-2 against Barrow. The D team won 6-4 against Wirral A, but the F team went down 6-4 at Bolton A.

Aerospace A hit the summit!

 

Division 1

 

Last years runners up Aerospace A have made a strong start to the season in their attempts to go one better than last year, with a 10-0 defeat of promoted Hollinwood C. Tony Vaughan, Tony Bates and Tom Lang all contributed maximums.

Glodwick moved into second place after maximums from new signing Mark Ramsbottom and Khamal Hussain in a 9-1 demolition of Hollinwood B.

Honeywell Lane A went down 6-4 to Hollinwood A, with outstanding junior Adam Rowbotham contributing 2 wins for the losers.

 

Division 2

 

Grotton A have made an excellent start to the season with their 8-2 victory over Hyde YMCA, being their third win in succession. Steve Oliver and Dave Morris were unbeaten.

Honeywell C moved to the top of division 2 with a 10-0 victory over Coldhurst A, Barrie Royle, Brian Higgins and Peter Buckley were unbeaten.

In a mid-table clash, First Transport got the better of Failsworth A, despite Rob Carter being unbeaten for Failsworth A. Kenny Hayes, Brian Hall and Derek Brookes won two sets each for First Transport.

 

Division 3

 

In the battle of the Gilders teams, the A team came out on top with a 6-4 win. Adeniya Ewelia and Gerry Lees won three sets each. Mark Craven, Fred Wood and Tony Robinson won one set each for the losers.

Owls A had an excellent 6-4 victory at unbeaten Grotton B with all Owls players, Dave Harthan, Phil Hall and Paul Woodward, winning two sets each. Steve Smith replied with two wins for Grotton B.

Unison D recorded their first win of the season beating Coldhurst C 8-2, with an outstanding performance from John Mark, who was undefeated. Wayne Carter was the only winner for Coldhurst C, with two close wins.

Honeywell D remain top of this division after an 8-2 victory over Failsworth C.

 

Division 4

 

Werneth E, with the evergreen trio of Brian Micklethwaite, Geoff Aspinall and Ron Tench got the better of a young Failsworth F side with a 7-3 victory. Werneth E experience coming to the fore.

In the clash of two unbeaten sides, Owls B and Werneth F, the home side came out on top with Philip Tamworth winning three sets and Richard Pullen contributing two wins. Alan Wynn replied with two wins for Werneth F.
