COLDHURST  MOUNT CHARGE

 

Coldhurst A are potentially on course for successive promotions after an 8-2 win against their B team in Div 3 of the Oldham Table Tennis League. Simon King was unbeaten backed by doubles from Geoff Hollin and Gary Keylock.

Hamer Delph retained top spot with a close fought 6-4 win over Unison C. Ian Naylor scoring 2 with John Maher replying likewise.

Colin Ogden trebled for Gilders B supported by Mark Craven (2) in a 7-3 win over Failsworth D.

Division 4 looks to be very close with any of the top five teams in contention. Coldhurst D are joint leaders after a 9-1 win against their F team. Malcolm Willis and Neil England were unbeaten with Dave England (2).

Previous leaders Honeywell C slipped into third spot after a 6-4 win at Unison D John Mark was unbeaten with Aaron and Adam Rowbotham both scoring 2.

Werneth E kept in touch with an 8-2 win at Coldhurst E. Dave Simpkin trebled with doubles from Dave Renton and Alan Else.

Bottom club Failsworth H posted their first win of the season with a 7-3 win at Werneth F. The experienced Peter Aspin led the way with 3 backed by Michael Woolfe (2) and a single from Daniel Cooper.

Werneth F won 7-3 at Deaf Club. Mike Pellowe (3) Malcolm Pellowe (2) and a first win for Laura Pellowe, Prakesh Bhojani replying with 2.

Hollinwood C are the new Div 2 leaders after a fine 8-2 win over Unison A. Phil Holmes was unbeaten backed by doubles from Brian Huskinson and John Flowers with Paul Howarth replying likewise.

Relegated Rosehill B won 7-3 at Failsworth C. Simon Collins and Jim Findlow were both unbeaten.

Ken Hayes was in fine form for First Transport in a 5-5 draw at Uppermill. He was unbeaten with Mark Simpson replying with 2 for Uppermill.

Hollinwood E beat Pennine 7-3. Jack Christian (3), Peter Dawson (2) with Glen Chadwick replying likewise.

In Division 1 overwhelming favourites NCFPPP are in pole position after a 9-1 win at Rosehill A. Larry Bainbridge and Bill Russell were unbeaten with Gary Skinner (2).

Grotton A will need a miracle to survive at top level after another 10-0 reverse at the hands of BAE A. Tony Bates, Tom Lang and Peter Bradford all unbeaten.

 

The first rounds of Lancashire & Cheshire inter-league were held this weekend. Oldham 1st had Glen Payne in excellent form backed by Andy Jackson & Larry Bainbridge. They had 5-1 wins over both Bolton & Mid-Cheshire and 3-3 draws against both Blackpool and neighbours Tameside.

The 2nds squad was chosen from Peter Morris,Jon De Pledge, Colin Boardman & Dave Buckley. A 4-2 defeat to Halton was turned around by 6-0 wins against both Blackburn & Lancaster & Morecambe with a 5-1 win against Glossop to complete the programme. Jon De Pledge was unbeaten in his eight sets.

FAILSWORTH C FLEX MUSCLES

Failsworth C are the new Division 2 leaders after an emphatic 9-1 win at Grotton B. Siful Khan & Rob Carter were unbeaten with Philip Moran (2).

Joe Redikin was in fine form for Hollinwood C, he trebled backed by Phil Holmes (2) in a 6-4 win at Honeywell B for whom Howard Travis scored 2.

Third placed Unison A are handily placed after a fine 9-1 win against Hyde YM B. Frank Sheldon & Dave Wild were unbeaten with Paul Howarth (2).

Uppermill won 8-2 at lowly Failsworth B, Gary Crossley{3}Mark Simpson & Keith Moores (2 each) with Liaquat Ali replying likewise.

In Div 1 BAe A took full advantage of a weakened Werneth A side in winning 8-2, Ian Mathers & Tony Smith were both unbeaten.

Paul Rowbotham trebled for Honeywell A in a close fought 5-5 draw at Hollinwood B for whom Simon Hardwick replied with 2.

Glodwick continued their fine form a 7-3 win over BAE B, Majid Tubasum & Kamal Hussain were both unbeaten.

In Div 3 Gilders A underlined their superiority with a 9-1 win over their B team which sees them move into 2nd spot. Martin Nicholls & Colin Ogden (3 each) with Dave Cunniffe 2.

Unison C tasted defeat for the first time this season at the hands of their B team. Dave Wild, Craig Oldfield & Steve Slater (all 2) with the previously unbeaten record of John Maher also being broken.

Community Centre posted a fine 9-1 win against Owls A. They had Peter Buckley & Leo Cogger to thank for maximums with Tom Loftus chipping in with 2.

Simon King was in good form for Coldhurst A as they swept aside Owls A 8-2.His treble was ably supported by doubles from both Geoff Hollin & Gary Keylock with Dave Harthan replying likewise.

In Div 4 Failsworth E are the new leaders after a 7-3 win against Coldhurst E .Ray Woods & Rebekah Griffith were both unbeaten.

Werneth E beat Failsworth G 8-2, Alan Else was unbeaten backed by Dave Renton & Geoff Aspinall (2 each) with Pete Aspin replying likewise.

 

There have been mixed fortunes in the opening inter league matches. Oldham Ladies went down 6-4 to Wirral.  MandyWinskill (2), Doreen Schofield (1) with Rebekah Griffith unfortunate not to register.

The Vets A lost 8-2 at Macclesfield with George Jones scoring the two.

The Vets E had Glen Dowse to thank for his treble, backed by Stuart Clarke (2) in a 7-3 win over Lytham.

Next weekend sees the first rounds of the inter league seniors when Oldham Mens 1st team will travel to Halton and the 2nd’ s in action at Hyndburn.

 

Failsworth School has entered a team in the Manchester & District Schools Table Tennis League with the possibility that Crompton House may also enter.

Failsworth School’s Rebekah Griffith played for Lancashire Juniors last weekend at Grantham, winning one of her three games in Lancashire’s 6 – 4 win against Durham.

FAILSWORTH EDGE NEW WILMSLOW SIDE

 

Failsworth A are the early leaders of the 1st division of the Oldham Table Tennis League following a 6-4 win over Wilmslow side BAE A. The current league champion Dave Griffith was unbeaten backed by Simon Abraham (2) with Tony Bates replying likewise.

The 7-3 win for Werneth A over Rosehill A saw them move into second spot. Stuart Meredith trebled With Peter Morris (2) and Ian Stott replying with 2.

Honeywell A have made a solid start to the season with a 5-5 draw against Hyde YM A. Paul Rowbotham scored two with Terry Taylor unbeaten for the visitors.

Phil Myers was in fine form for Werneth B in their 5-5 draw at Hollinwood A. He was unbeaten with George Jones & Dave Cheetham both replying with doubles.

 In Div 2 Hollinwood C are in pole position after a close fought 6-4 win over First Transport. Phil Holmes was unbeaten with Bob Johnson (2) and Ken Hayes also replying with 2.

Joint leaders Failsworth C had to settle for a draw against Unison A. Rob Carter trebled with Paul Howarth & Dave Wild posting doubles for the visitors.

Pennine are not finding Div 2 table tennis easy after an 8-2 defeat at Werneth C. Doreen Schofield trebled with doubles from Bernard Davies & Paul Wilkinson, Glen Chadwick scoring both for Pennine.

 In Div 3 relegated Hamer Delph are the early leaders after a 7-3 win at Community Centre. Ian Naylor was unbeaten backed by Alan Marston (2) with Peter Buckley (2) and a single from Tom Loftus in reply.

Gilders A had Dave Cunniffe and Martin Nicholls to thank for trebles in their 7-3 win at Werneth D.

A maximum from John Maher helped Unison C into second spot with a 6-4 win at Gilders B for whom Colin Ogden and Mark Craven posted doubles.

Promoted Coldhurst B edged Failsworth D 6-4 Simon Walsh and Tom Chandler scoring 2 each with Paul Carter and Nathan Buckley replying likewise.

In Div 4 Honeywell C are the early pacesetters after a 7-3 win at Uppermill C. The treble of Jim Bradbury was in vain as the Rowbotham brothers, Aaron, Adam and Lee all posted doubles.

Werneth E beat their F team 7-3. Dave Renton was unbeaten with Colette Lord (2) and Peter Aspinall also scoring 2. The highlight of the match was an 11-8 fifth game decider in favour of Peter Aspinall over father Geoff.

The treble of Daniel Cooper was in vain as Failsworth H lost 7-3 to their F team Alan Nightingale, Andrew Stott and John Barley all scoring 2.

Coldhurst D beat Failsworth G 8-2. Malcolm Willis trebled backed by Neil Chapman and Neil England (both 2.)

NCFPPP IN RAMPANT MOOD

 

It is indicative of the gulf which currently exists in Div 1 that champions NCFPPP can overwhelm their closest rivals Werneth A 9-1.Mark Ramsbottom & Andy Jackson were unbeaten with Bill Russell chipping in with 2.

Kamal Hussain was in fine form for Glodwick, he was unbeaten backed by John Hutchinson & Majid Tubasum (2 each) in an 8-2 win over Hollinwood A.

Maximums from Dave Griffith & Simon Abraham helped Failsworth A to a 7-3 win over Rosehill A.

In Div 2 new signing Steve Lyons trebled for Hyde YM B in an 8-2 win over Failsworth B.He was ably supported by Dennis Bradshaw (3) & Vernon Hyde(2).

Failsworth C had Siful Khan & Rob Carter to thank for trebles in their 6-4 win against also promoted Honeywell B.

Doreen Schofield trebled for Werneth C against Uppermill A. She was backed by Bernard Davies & Paul Wilkinson (2 each) with Pete Watson replying likewise in the 8-2 win.

Ken Hayes was again in fine form for First Transport in a 7-3 win over Hyde YM B. His treble was backed by Brian Hall (2) with Nick Bakewell also posting 2.

The signing of Jack Christian by Hollinwood E should prevent any relegation worries this term. He was unbeaten supported by John Foster (2) in a 6-4 win over their D team for whom Glen Dowse replied with 2.

In Div 3 Paul Woodward was unbeaten for Owls A supported by Martin Raines (2) in a close fought 6-4 win over PBAIS for whom Dave Atkinson chipped in with 2.

John Maher was again in fine form for Unison C, he trebled backed by Barrie Johnson (2) in a 7-3 win over Werneth D.

Gerry Lees, Colin Ogden & Mark Craven were all unbeaten as Gilders B swept aside Coldhurst C 9-1.

In Div 4 Owls B edged Coldhurst E 6-4. Dinesh Gorasia trebled with Philip Tamworth (2) & Neil England replying likewise.

Failsworth E, led by the experienced Ray Woods overwhelmed Werneth F 10-0.He was ably supported by Champa Vachji & Rebekah Griffith.

The Rowbotham brothers of Honeywell C are now steadily improving in their second season. Aaron and Adam both trebled in an 8-2 win at Coldhurst F.

Dave Renton & Mike Pellowe were unbeaten in a 7-3 win over Unison D.
