Newspaper Article W/c 14th October 02

Division 1. Hamer A remain top after a draw against Werneth A. Hamer's Andy Boardman was the only undefeated player on the night, in a game where every player scored at least one win. Three of the sets were settled at deuce in the third, so a draw was a fair result.

NCFPPP 's 10 -0 win over Rosehill A, keeps them in second spot just one point behind with a game in hand.

Division 2. Hollinwood D were 4-2 down to their E team but finished strongly to turn it into a 6-4 victory. Roy Hicketts scored a treble with Ray Statham and Harry Ross each picking up one. The game of the night saw Stuart Clarke snatch a defeat out of the jaws of victory against Ray Statham, who after winning the first and being 14-6 up in the second, and something similar in the third, went on to lose the last two games 25-23, 23-21.

Gilders A drew with Hyde YMCA B with two wins each for Ray Woods and Martin Nicholls and one from Colin Ogden. Ken Ward (3) and Vernon Hyde (1) replied for Hyde.

Division 3. Pennine beat Uppermill B 7-3 thanks to wins from Dave Harris (3), Glenn Chadwick (2) and Vin Flannagan. Stuart Hanson (1) narrowly lost 24-22 in the third against Dave. Howard Meadham won two.

The previous mention of the Owls A unbeaten run must have served as the kiss of death, as they lost their next game at home to Hamer Delph 6-4. The damage was done by Alan Marston (3), Derek Naylor (2) and John Kershaw (1). Paul Woodward (2) and Philip Hall (1) were the Owls winners.

Unison A beat Gilders B 7-3 with maximums from Glenn Jackson and Craig Oldfield. The Gilders team of Colin Ogden, Gerry Lees and Tony Robinson all won one each.

Division 4. Coldhurst B beat their D team 9-1, with new signing Dave England avoiding the whitewash. Mark Tattersall (3) Derek Taylor (3) and David Tattersall (2) proved too strong for the D team who are enjoying their first season in the league.

John Greenwood did a similar job for the Coldhurst C team who lost 9-1 to the Owls B team of Martin Raines(3) , Dinesh Gorasia (3) and Philip Tamworth (2).

The Unison C & D teams improved their lead at the top with 10-0 wins against Failsworth B and Failsworth C respectively.
