BAe suffered their first defeat in Division 2 going down 7-3 at Hollinwood 'D'. Hollinwood's John Flowers, Simon Hardwick and Glenn Dowse each won 2 but were unable to beat Mick Hill who was BAe's only winner.

Hyde YM'B' and Honeywell Lane gained their first victories of the season against Hamer 'B' and Werneth 'C'' respectively.

In Division 3 Grotton 'B' (Steve Smith 2, Alan Sarsfield 2, Neil Tomlinson 2 ) beat Unison 'B' (Steve Wild 1, Dave Wild 2) and Gilders Tackle (Colin Ogden 3 , Gerry Lees 2, Martin Nicholls 3) beat Lancs Racquets ( Dave Atkinson 1 ) and both teams are moving nicely up the League. In contrast Lancs Racquets, with their third successive 1-9 defeat are heading in the opposite direction.

The top game in Division 4 saw Owls 'A' maintain their unbeaten record with a 7-3 win over Uppermill 'B'. Dave Harthan just about clinging on to his 100% record with a 23-21 win in the third over Howard Meadham thanks to a net and edge after having been 17-20 and 20-21 down.

Unison 'C' also kept their unbeaten record, with a tight 7-3 win over Unison 'D'. Denis Heyes starred for the 'D' team with 3 wins, spoiling Peter Rands 100% record in the process.

The top two teams met this week in Division 2. Unbeaten performances by Kevin & Mick Hill ensured a 7-3 Aerospace victory. Alan Bamford, Duncan Hadfield and Simon Abraham each won one set for A Ceramics.

At the other end of the table Hamer 'B' had a close 6-4 victory at Honeywell Lane. Adam Thornton (3) and Alex Hinchcliffe (2) causing the damage with replies from Brian Higgins (2) Ken Dunkerley (1) and Andy Hey (1).

Werneth 'C' recorded their second successive victory in the game at Hollinwood 'F', with the improving Paul Wilkinson (3) and Bernard Davies (2) overcoming Harry Ross (2) Bob Johnson (1) and George Marrow (1).

Austerlands beat Failsworth 'A' 6-4 in Division 3, with Lee Hollin 2), Dennis Hanson (2) and Gary Keylock (1). Munawar Hussain (2),George Mercer (1) and Jack Greenwood (1) replied.

Promoted Deaf 'A' are finding it tough, going down 9-1 at home to Grotton 'B'. Hitesh Kanji beat Neil Tomlinson to avoid the whitewash.

In Division 4 Coldhurst 'C' went down 8-2 to Failsworth 'D' with wins from Colin and Andy Robinson. Failsworth's winners were Andrew Stott (3), Alan Nightingale (2) and John Barley (2).

There have been a number of tight sets this week, none closer than Glenn Chadwick's (Transport) 30-28 win in the third game over Martin Nicholls (Gilders Tackle)

Other 3 game thrillers were Gary Hallsworth's (Hollinwood) 27- 25 win over Lionel Royle (Hyde YM), Andy Jackson's (Royton) 23 - 21 win over Kevin Rothwell (Rosehill) and Douglas Hill's (Royton) 23 - 21 win over Jimmy Findlow (Rosehill). Phil Myers had a 22 - 20 win over Eddie Darlington (Werneth) and a 21 -19 win over Mandy Goodwin in the same match to maintain his unbeaten record so far this season.

In Division 2 Uppermill drew with A Ceramics (Peter Watson (1), Mark Simpson (2) and Dave Grundy (2) with Duncan Hadfield (2) and Alan Bamford replying for the visitors.

In Division 3 Unison B picked up their first win with Steve and Dave Wild unbeaten in the 6-4 victory over Austerlands.

Royton ‘B’s season kicked off this week against Hollinwood ‘A’, after 2 blank fixtures in Division 1. Wins from Larry Bainbridge (3), Gary Skinner (2) and Douglas Hill (1) with replies from Tony Reed (2) and Les Evans (1) resulted in a 7-3 victory for Royton.

In division 2 Aerospace ‘B’ had a convincing 8-2 win at Grotton ‘A’ with wins for Kevin Hill (3) Pete Hill (2) and Eddie Kalinowski (2). Tony Prescott and Steve Oliver replied for Grotton.

Lancashire Racquets defeated Hamer ‘B’ 7-3 in division 3. In a game that was scattered with deuce games the result could have easily been reversed. Colin Boardman was outstanding for Racquets with 3 wins assisted by John Herman (2) and David Atkinson (1). Derek Naylor was unlucky not to pick up a win, but Alan Marston (2) and John Kershaw (1) succeeded.

Would teams in Division 3 please note that Oldham Community Centre match night will now be Thursday until January 02

Division 4 saw two previously unbeaten teams competing. Owls ‘A’ beat Werneth ‘E’ 6 – 4 with an unbeaten performance from Phillip Hall and two wins from Martin Raines. Tony Hyde (2), Howard Mayers (1) and June Chadderton (1) were successful for Werneth.
