WERNETH STAKE TITLE CLAIM

 

Werneth A are mounting a serious challenge for the Div 1 title after a 10-0 formality over BAE B. Ian McLean, Stuart Meredith and Peter Morris were the architects of the rout in a result which sees BAE B now in the relegation zone.

The bright start to the season for Hollinwood A faltered somewhat after a 7-3 reverse at the hands of Rosehill A. Dave Pegg was unbeaten backed by doubles from Phil Ashworth and Richard Sarre.

A Terry Taylor treble edged proceedings for Hyde YM A at Werneth B for whom Eddie Darlington and Mandy Winskill posted doubles in the 6-4 win.

Jack Christian was unbeaten for Hollinwood B backed by doubles from Dave Cheetham and Phil Holmes in the 7-3 win over Werneth C.

 

In Div 2 Unison A beat Honeywell B 7-3 thanks to a Paul Howarth maximum backed by a Craig Oldfield double with Howard Travis replying likewise.

Honeywell C fared better after a 7-3 win over Failsworth A which saw Barrie Royle unbeaten, supported by doubles from Ian Naylor and Adam Rowbotham with Rob Carter notching similarly for the visitors.

Failsworth B are struggling at the bottom end of the table after a 10-0 reverse at the hands of leaders Uppermill A for whom Glen Hewitt, Gary Crossley and Mark Simpson were responsible.

 

In Div 3 Honeywell D maintain the pressure after a 9-1 win over basement boys Coldhurst C. Ken Dunkerley and David Watts were unbeaten backed by a Derek Naylor double.

Unbeaten stints from Dave Atkinson and Dave Hanson backed by a Mike O’Gara double keep Unison B in the frame after a 9-1 win at lowly Failsworth D.

Grotton B posted a fine 7-3 win over Failsworth C. Alf Barker trebled backed by a Steve Smith double with Derek Buckley responding likewise.

Trebles from Dave Harthan and Paul Woodward helped Owls A to a 7-3 win over the unfortunate Gilders B.

 

 In Div 4 second placed Unison D were pushed all the way by Owls B. Maximums from Denis Heyes and Roger Jagger were the platform for the 6-4 scoreline.

A Bradley Dawson treble backed by a Jordan McNamara double helped Failsworth F shade a 6-4 win over Coldhurst F for whom Dave Varney posted two.

Trebles from Carl Simpson and Rebekah Griffith keep OTTC C in the picture after a 7-3 win over Honeywell E.

Saddleworth CC’s Chris Brazewell, Wayne Rawstron and Peter Skuse all posted doubles in the 6-4 win over Coldhurst E for whom Murray Corbin replied likewise. The E teams of Failsworth and Werneth locked horns with the result going in favour of the latter. Phil Coombe was unbeaten backed by a Geoff Aspinall double with Alan Nightingale responding similarly in the 7-3 scoreline.

ROSEHILL IN VITAL WIN

Rosehill A are steering clear of the Div 1 relegation zone after a fine 8-2 win over Honeywell A. Richard Sarre was unbeaten backed by doubles from Phil Ashworth and Dave Pegg with Paul Rowbotham responding similarly.

Doubles from Hollinwood B’s Dave Cheetham, Jack Christian and Colin Boardman were the platform for the 7-3 win at Hyde YM A for whom Mark Danaher notched two.

Werneth C avoided defeat for the first time this season by sharing the points with Glodwick. Phil Myers trebled for Werneth with Majid Tubasum and Kamal Hussain replying with doubles.

Unbeaten stints from Dave Griffith and Andy Kaye helped OTTC B to a 7-3 success over Rosehill B.

In Div 2 lowly Coldhurst A were narrowly beaten at leaders Uppermill A 6-4. Gary Crossley was unbeaten backed by a Glen Hewitt double with Simon Walsh replying likewise for Coldhurst.

The Paul Howarth treble for Unison A was in vain since doubles from the Hollinwood C trio of John Flowers, Phil Holmes and Joe Redikin edged the scoreline 6-4.

The battle of the bus depots could not decide a winner as an unbeaten stint from Glen Chadwick of  Pennine was replied by a Ken Hayes double for First Transport in the 5-5 scoreline.

Ian Naylor was in fine form for Honeywell C in the 7-3 win at Grotton A. His treble was backed by doubles from Barrie Royle and Adam Rowbotham with Alf Barker replying likewise.

Basement boys Hollinwood E shared the points with high flying Hyde YM B. Gary Newton and John Foster notched doubles with Nick Bakewell unbeaten for YM.

 

The top match in Div 3 saw leaders Uppermill B take on third placed Grotton B with the result going in favour of Uppermill for whom Peter Watson and Keith Moores were unbeaten.

Second placed Werneth D maintained the pressure after unbeaten stints from Mike Pellowe and Alan Else helped them to an 8-2 win over Gilders B.

Trebles from Dave Harthan and Martin Raines backed by a Philip Hall double helped Owls A to a fine 9-1 win at Unison C and climb the table.

 

In Div 4 the bandwagon of Coldhurst D steamrollered another 10-0 formality over the unfortunate Werneth F. Malcolm Wills, Terry Holland and Adrian Waugh all being unbeaten.

The second promotion place looks very close with Uppermill C edging Owls B 6-4. Doubles from Jim Bradbury and Mark Burke with the Paul Woodward treble in reply proving to no avail.

Joint second Unison D also posted a 6-4 win at Coldhurst E. John Mark and Roger Jagger notched doubles with Murray Corbin replying with a treble.

Unbeaten stints from Philip Coombe and Dave Renton backed by a Geoff Aspinall double helped Werneth E to a 9-1 win over Coldhurst F. 

 

Latest results from the Lancs & Chesire League:Oldham Vets travelled to Preston and posted two very good results. The Ist’s came away with a 6-4 scoreline thanks to doubles from Stuart Meredith and Nick Mooney. The A team aided by trebles from Jon De Pledge and Phil Myers registered an 8-2 success. The B team featured in a 5-5 draw with Trafford for whom George Jones and Bob Johnson posted doubles. The Div 4 derby went in favour of Oldham F over the E team. The overworked Bob Johnson was unbeaten backed by a Gary Newton double in the 7-3 surprise.

UNBEATEN RUN SMASHED

 

Werneth B had their unbeaten run in Div 1 shattered by champions OTTC A. Wayne Renton and Dave Griffith were unbeaten backed by an Andy Kaye double in the 9-1 formality.

A Tony Bates treble backed by doubles from Tom Lang and Peter Bradford maintained the push of BAE A with an 8-2 win at Rosehill A.

Unbeaten stints from Jon De Pledge and Dave Buckley keep Hollinwood A in the frame after an 8-2 success over bottom side Werneth C.

Paul Rowbotham trebled for Honeywell A backed by a Tim Baker double in the 7-3 win over lowly Rosehill B for whom Simon Collins posted two.

Kamal Hussain was unbeaten backed by doubles from Majid Tubasum and Siful Khan in the 8-2 win for Glodwick over Hyde YM A for whom Mark Danaher responded likewise.

In Div 2 leaders Uppermill A were pegged back in the 5-5 draw at Hyde YM B. Steve Lyons trebled for YM backed by a Denis Bradshaw double with Glen Hewitt replying likewise.

A Ken Ward maximum backed by doubles from Terry Cooper and Ken Dunkerley helped Honeywell B to an 8-2 win at Coldhurst A.

Doubles from Honeywell C’s Ian Naylor, Barrie Royle and Adam Rowbotham were the platform of the 7-3 win over Hollinwood E for whom the Gary Newton treble was in vain.

Trebles from Phil Holmes and Joe Redikin helped Hollinwood C to an 8-2 win at Failsworth B.

 

Div 3 looks very tight with several sides in the promotion picture. Leaders Uppermill B had Mark Simpson and Keith Moores to thank for trebles backed by a Howard Meadham double in the 9-1 win at Failsworth D.

An excellent treble by Honeywell C’s junior, Adam Rowbotham, helped them to a draw against the experienced Failsworth C team of Ray Woods, Derrick Buckley & Brian Handley

Doubles from Mike Pellowe and Alan Else helped shade the 6-4 win over Owls A for whom Paul Woodward responded similarly.

The Geoff Hollin treble was in vain for Coldhurst B since doubles from Fred Woods and Tony Robinson edged the 6-4 scoreline in favour of Gilders B.

Steve Slater was unbeaten for Unison C backed by a Peter Jones double in the 7-3 success over bottom side Coldhurst C for whom John McLoughlin also posted two.

 

In Div 4 leaders Coldhurst D swept aside Failsworth E 10-0. Malcolm Wills, Terry Holland and Adrian Waugh being the architects of the rout.

A John Mark maximum backed by a Roger Jagger double keeps Unison D in second spot in the 6-4 win over Honeywell E for whom Aaron Rowbotham notched two.

A Philip Coombe treble for Werneth E helped share the points with Deaf Club. Ian Cochrane and Stuart Davis responding with doubles for a side likely to climb the table.

VETS KICKSTART SEASON IN STYLE

 

Oldham Vets Ist team commenced their campaign with a flawless 10-0 win over Liverpool BH. Stuart Meredith, Nick Mooney and Gary Skinner being responsible for maximum damage.

Oldham Vets A team also posted an excellent 10-0 win over Mid Cheshire. Jon De Pledge, Phil Myers and Dave Buckley were the architects of the rout for the side which last season narrowly avoided relegation.

 

In Div I the basement battle between Rosehill B and BAE B went in favour of the latter 6-4. Kevin Hill was unbeaten with doubles in reply from Jimmy Findlow and Warwick Francis.

Phil Ashworth, Dave Pegg and Richard Sarre all posted doubles for Rosehill A in the 6-4 win over Werneth C.

Unlike in recent years the top end of the division looks to be very much open with all the leading sides dropping points. Champions OTTC A helped by unbeaten stints from Mark Ramsbottom and Wayne Renton beat Hollinwood B 7-3.

 

In Div 2 First Transport are a stronger side due to the return of Ken Hayes. He was unbeaten backed by a Brian Hall double in the 7-3 win at Grotton A for whom Steve Oliver posted two.

The inter club clash between the D and E teams of Hollinwood was settled in favour of the D outfit.Glen Dowse trebled backed by a Phil Holmes double with Gary Newton responding similarly.

Trebles from Paul Howarth and Frank Sheldon helped Unison A to an 8-2 win over lowly Failsworth B.

Honeywell B and Hyde YM B shared the points in a close fought encounter. Denis Bradshaw was unbeaten for YM backed by a Nick Bakewell double with Howard Travis replying likewise.

 

In Div 3 Unison B suffered a setback losing 7-3 to their C team. Andy Hey was in fine form, his maximum was backed by doubles from Steve Slater and Peter Jones. Honeywell D were also pegged back in the 5-5 draw at Uppermill B. Junior champion Adam Rowbotham was unbeaten for Honeywell whilst Peter Watson and Keith Moores posted doubles in response.

Unbeaten stints from Alf Barker and Steve Smith keep Grotton B in the picture after a 7-3 win at Gilders B.

Owls A won 8-2 at bottom side Coldhurst C. Paul Woodward trebled backed by doubles from Dave Harthan and Martin Raines with Wayne Carter replying likewise.

 

In Div 4 Unison D enjoyed a 9-1 success at Failsworth F. Mike O’Gara and Denis Heyes were unbeaten backed by a John Mark double.

The all ladies team of OTTC C beat newcomers Saddleworth CC 7-3. Rebekah Griffith trebled backed by a Diane Lackie double with Chris Brazewell responding similarly.

Unbeaten stints from David Foden and Richard Pullen were the foundation of the 7-3 win for Owls B over Failsworth E.

Coldhurst E beat Werneth F 8-2. A Peter Altham maximum was supported by doubles from Dave Varney and Murray Corbin.
