The semi finals of the Divisional Handicap Cups took place last week in the Oldham & District Table Tennis League. Rosehill A overcame their B Team thanks to gains for Dave Pegg (35), Phil Ashworth and Ian Stott (31 each) resulting in a 52 pt win.
They will now face BAE A in the final after a Tony Bates gain of 45 pt together with a 28 pt contribution from Tony Smith giving them an overall winning margin of 51 pts over Glodwick.
Success starved Hollinwood D will feature in the Division 2 final after a narrow 12 pt win over Failsworth A. Glen Dowse gained 22 backed by a Steve Mather gain of 20 edged proceedings for Hollinwood.
Coldhurst A will also contest the Div 2 final after a narrow 21 pt win over Hyde YM B. Gains from Nick Bakewell (36) and Dennis Bradshaw (28) were to no avail since the handicaps in favour of Coldhurst proved too steep a hurdle.
The Division 3 final will be an all Failsworth affair. Failsworth C had Ray Woods to thank (60 pt) and Derek Buckley (38) to steer them to an overall 23 pt win over Gilders B.
The deficits of Failsworth D were kept to a minimum in order to defeat Unison C by a mere 9 pts. The sizeable gain of 64 pt for Andy Hey proved to no avail.
In division 4 Coldhurst E defeated their D team by 478 to
454 and Honeywell E defeated Uppermill C by a mere 19 pts.

DARRYL RECLAIMS
TITLE
Darryl Meredith
strolled to his third Open singles title in the Deckers Restaurants Oldham
Table Tennis Championships. He overcame Mark Ramsbottom in the semi-final
12-10, 11-8,11-8 whilst Dave Griffith accounted for the holder Siful Khan in
the other semi 9-11,11-4,11-8,11-8.
The final saw
Meredith produce an awesome display of attacking forehand loops and early ball
backhand winners which could not be matched by a tiring Dave Griffith. Few people
could argue that the league’s best player justifiably triumphed on the day
(11-4,11-3,9-11,11-5).
The overworked Dave
Griffith again featured in the latter stages of the Veterans event. He
accounted for Ian McLean 8-11,11-7,11-5,11-9 in the semis whilst Mark
Ramsbottom despatched doubles partner Andy Jackson 11-6,11-9,11-8.
The final was
shaded by Mark Ramsbottom 13-11,11-7,11-8.
The junior event
saw the top four seeds reach their expected semi-final stage. Nathan Buckley
beat Paul Carter whilst Adam Rowbotham overcame Rebekah Griffith
11-7,12-10,11-8 to set up a repeat of last years final. It was a similar
outcome as Adam won 11-5,11-9,11-8.
All the juniors
have shown significant improvement from last year and the future bodes well.
Darryl Meredith
collected his second title of the day via the doubles event. They overcame
father and daughter team Dave and Rebekah Griffith in the semis 11-5,11-7,11-7
whilst Mark Ramsbottom and Andy Jackson beat Tim Hatton and Jon De Pledge
11-9,11-9,11-4.
The final proved to
be a tense see-saw match which eventually went in favour of Meredith and McLean
10-12,11-8,5-11,11-5,11-6.
The much improved
Steve Lyons won the Div 1 handicap event with Adam Rowbotham winning Div 2.
Derek Buckley and Bradley Dawson won divisions three and four respectively.
Werneth A are
within touching distance of the Div 1 title after a 9-1 win over Werneth B
whilst second placed BAE A lost ground drawing at Hollinwood A.
In Div 2 Uppermill
A overwhelmed Coldhurst A 10-0 in a result which sees Coldhurst in the drop
zone.
In Div 3 Unison B now occupy the second
promotion spot after a 9-1 win at Honeywell D.
The promotion
aspirations of Div 4 Unison D were somewhat pegged back after a 5-5 draw with
Coldhurst E.
