CUP RESULTS SET UP INTER-CLUB CLASHES

Promotion and relegation issues were put on hold as this week saw the divisional handicap cup first round matches which has resulted in some interesting second round pairings. The battle of the Division 1 heavyweights saw Werneth A victorious over BAE A. Darryl Meredith set the standard with a 44pt gain ably backed by Stuart Meredith (29) and Peter Morris (23).

OTTC A came agonisingly close in overturning a 55pt start to BAE B. Gains from Andy Kaye (45) and Dave Griffith (31) proved to no avail as they fell short by a mere 3pts.

Hollinwood B set up a second round clash with their A team after a fine win at Rosehill A. George Jones paved the way with a 39pt gain backed by gains from Tristran Swan (35) and Ian Quinn(27).

Division 2 high fliers Unison A progressed to the second round with a 45pt win over Werneth D. Dave Cheetham led the way with a 65pt gain backed by Dave Hanson (27) and Paul Whyatt (10).

The Simon King haul of 41pts helped Coldhurst A progress at the expense of Honeywell A. He was supported by 17pt gains from Duncan Hadfield and Roger Lee.

The all Hollinwood clash between the D and E teams saw the E team progress. The overall gain of 38pts for John Foster was the platform of the E team success.

Adam Rowbotham’s gain of 54pts was the deciding factor in the win for Failsworth A at the expense of Rosehill B.

In Division 3 Grotton B can now concentrate on promotion after a 62pt loss at Owls A. In an unusually close match which saw no player gain more than 14pts (Steve Smith for Grotton) the 76pt original deficit proving insurmountable for Grotton.

The 28pt gain for Terry Holland of Coldhurst C was in vain a similar gain for Colin Ogden was enough to see Gilders B through by an overall 21pts.

A massive gain of 82pts for Richard Hinchcliffe was the platform of the success for Failsworth B over Uppermill C.

Gains from Keith Moores (44), Howard Meadham (27) and Peter Watson (24) for Uppermill B shaded proceedings by a mere 12pts over the juniors of Failsworth C.

Division 4 leaders Saddleworth kept their double aspirations alive with a 75pt win at Failsworth D. Gains from Peter Skuse (69), Alex Griffiths(58) and Chris Brazewell (37) were the foundation of the win.
