Division 3 leaders Coldhurst A also progressed with a 27 point win over Unison B. All round contributions from Simon King (53), Geoff Hollin (32) and Gary Keylock (23) proved to be the backbone of the win.

BAe A ON SCHEDULE

The 6-4 win for BAe A over close rivals Failsworth A is probably enough to secure runners-up spot in Div 1 of the Oldham Table Tennis league. Ian Mathers and Tony Bates posted doubles with the Dave Griffith triple reply being in vain.

A Peter Morris treble backed by doubles from Stuart Meredith and Nick Mooney gave Werneth A a 7-3 win at Rosehill A for whom Phil Ashworth replied with two. Hollinwood A recorded a 7-3 win at Werneth B, George Jones was unbeaten with Eddie Darlington posting two.

In Div 2 Failsworth B are displaying the form required to escape the relegation zone. A Liaquat Ali maximum backed by doubles from Ian Connell and Richard Hinchcliffe saw them home 8-2 against a faltering Hollinwood D.

Hyde YM B consolidated their mid table position with a fine 6-4 win over First Transport. Dennis Bradshaw and Vernon Hyde posted doubles with Ken Hayes responding likewise.

Unison A recorded an emphatic 8-2 win over Failsworth C. A Dave Wild maximum backed by doubles from Paul Howarth and John Maher, the latter indicating he would not be overawed at this level.

A Gary Crossley treble gave Uppermill A a 6-4 win at Hollinwood E for whom Jack Christian posted two.

In Div 3 Andy Hey is recapturing his form for Unison B. He was unbeaten backed by a Steve Slater double in the 7-3 win at Coldhurst C.

There appears no stopping of the Coldhurst A promotion charge as another resounding 9-1 win puts them closer to Div 2. Geoff Hollin and Simon King were unbeaten backed by a Gary Keylock double over the unfortunate PBAIS.

Maurice Tobi was in fine form for Community Centre, he was unbeaten with Dave Harthan and Paul Woodward replying with doubles for Owls A in the 5-5 scoreline. The 8-2 win for Hamer Delph at Uppermill B keeps them on course for promotion. Ian Naylor was unbeaten backed by doubles from Alan Marston and Derek Naylor with the experienced Peter Watson replying likewise.

Div 4 leaders Failsworth E showed no mercy towards their G team. Ray Woods, Rebekah Griffith and Matthew Evans responsible for the 10-0 scoreline.

Rob Ainsworth and Alan Nightingale were both unbeaten for Failsworth F in the 8-2 win over their H team.

Werneth E kept the pressure on the leaders with a 9-1 win over their F team. Phillip Coombe and Dave Renton were unbeaten backed by a Brian Mickelthwaite double. Mike Stansfield trebled for Owls B backed by doubles from Dinesh Gorasia and John Tanner in the 7-3 win at Coldhurst F.

Unison D won 8-2 at Deaf Club. John Mark was unbeaten backed by doubles from Martin Haigh and Roger Jagger.

It is with sadness that that the league reports the death of one of the former members Barry Greenwood. Barry was one of the top players of the fine Coldhurst team of the 70’s and will be missed by many.
