KING OF COLDHURST DISPLAYS STYLE

 

Simon King was unbeaten for Coldhurst A in a fine 6-4 win over mid-table First Transport. He was backed by a Gary Keylock double, with Ken Hayes replying likewise. The win for Coldhurst will need to be replicated during the coming months if they are to avoid a quick return to division 3.

Unbeaten stints from Glen Hewitt and Gary Crossley maintained the division 2 leadership, courtesy of an 8-2 win at Honeywell B.

Failsworth B are becoming detatched at the foot of the table after a 6-4 reverse at the hands of their A team. The Richard Hinchcliffe double was to no avail since a Phil Moran treble backed by a Rob Carter double saw the Failsworth A home 6-4.

Second placed Hollinwood C edged their derby against the E team, Phil Holmes trebled backed by a Bob Johnson double with Gary Newton replying likewise in the 6-4 win.

In division 1 Rosehill B posted an important win over bottom side Werneth C. Doubles from Jim Findlow and Andy Perry were matched by Bernard Davies and Doug Hill with the remaining two sets in favour of the victors.

Uneaten stints from Tony Bates and Tony Smith aided by a Tony Vaughan were the foundation of the 9-1 win over their B team.

The all Hollinwood division one encounter finished all square. Dave Buckley was unbeaten for the A team with doubles in response from George Jones and Jack Christian.

The Dave Hamilton maximum for Honeywell A was in vain since doubles from Glodwick’s Siful Khan and Kamal Hussain shaded the result 6-4.

 

Honeywell D are the new division 3 leaders after an emphatic 8-2 win at Owls A. Ken Dunkerley was unbeaten backed by doubles from Derek Naylor and David Watts. Werneth D were surprisingly held by mid table Unison B.  Mike Pellowe and Alan Else notched doubles for Werneth with a treble in reply from John Maher.

An Alf Barker treble backed by doubles from Steve Smith and Alan Sarsfield keep Grotton B in the frame with an 8-2 success over Unison C for whom John Mark posted the two.

Martin Nicholls trebled for Gilders A in the 5-5 draw at Failsworth D. Improving junior Mathhew Evans responded with a double.

In division 4  Werneth F maintained their form with another 6-4 win at Coldhurst F. Ron Tench was unbeaten backed by a Mark Riddle double.

Owls B and Failsworth F recorded a hard fought 5-5 stalemate. Philip Tamworth was unbeaten for Owls with Daniel Cooper and Bradley Dawson replying with doubles.

The E teams of Honeywell and Coldhurst met with the result in favour of the latter. Murray Corbin was unbeaten backed by doubles from Peter Altham and Dave Varney in the 8-2 scoreline.

Unbeaten stints from the Uppermill trio of Jim Bradbury, Gary Kershaw and Mark Burke were the platform of the 10-0 rout over Failsworth E.

BAE EDGE BASEMENT BATTLE

 

Doubles from Kevin Hill and Eddie Kalinowski helped BAE B to a 6-4 win over Werneth C for whom Bernard Davies notched similarly in the Division 1 bottom two encounter.

Unbeaten stints from Geoff Ogden and Steve Lyons were the platform of the 7-3 win for Hyde YM A at Rosehill B who are now just a single point above the drop zone. The woeful form of Hollinwood A continued after a latest 8-2 reverse at the hands of Glodwick. Siful Khan trebled backed by doubles from Kamal Hussain and Majid Tubasum.

A Tom Lang maximum backed by a Tony Bates double keeps BAE A in the title picture with a 7-3 win at Werneth B for whom Phil Myers posted two.

 

Div 2 saw the top two clash with the leaders Uppermill A despatching Hollinwood C 7-3. Glen Hewitt and Gary Crossley were unbeaten in a result which goes a long way to securing first division table tennis next season.

The Honeywell C trio of Ian Naylor, Barrie Royle and Adam Rowbotham all posted doubles in the 6-4 win over Hollinwood D for whom Stuart Clarke replied likewise.

A Rob Carter maximum backed by a Phillip Moran double edged proceedings for Failsworth A at lowly Coldhurst A. Simon King notched a double for the home side in the 6-4 result.

A Gary Newton maximum for Hollinwood E helped share the points at mid table Unison A for whom Paul Howarth posted two.

 

Division 3 leaders Uppermill B maintained pole position after an 8-2 win at Gilders B, Peter Watson and Keith Moores contributing trebles.

Werneth D had to settle for a draw against Failsworth C. Derek Buckley was unbeaten for Failsworth backed by a Ray Woods double with Alan Else notching similarly in the 5-5 scoreline.

The Peter Buckley treble for Comm Centre was in vain since doubles from the Owls A trio of Dave Harthan, Martin Raines and Paul Woodward  gave them the 7-3 win. Martin Nicholls was unbeaten for Gilders A backed by a Colin Ogden double in the 6-4 win at Honeywell D for whom Ken Dunkerley posted two.

 

In division 4 the promotion charge of Unison D was maintained with an 8-2 win over a below par Deaf Club. John Mark trebled backed by doubles from Dennis Heyes and Martin Haigh.

A Howard Meadham treble backed by doubles from Jim Bradbury and Stuart Hanson keeps Uppermill C in the frame after a 7-3 win over Werneth E.

Doubles from the Honeywell E trio of Ronnie Holt, Aaron Rowbotham and Mike Ganley shaded the 6-4 win at Coldhurst F for whom Paul Cahill responded likewise. Maximums from Ron Tench and Peter Aspinall gave Werneth F a much needed 8-2 win over Failsworth E.

A Peter Altham treble backed by a Murray Corbin double helped Coldhurst E to a

7-3 win at Failsworth F for whom improving junior Daniel Cooper posted two.                                           

 

Oldham Vets A team secured a vital win over Bolton in the Lancs and Cheshire league first division. Peter Morris and Phil Myers were in fine form notching doubles in the 6-4 win.

A Ted Robakowski treble backed by a Bernard Davies double gave Oldham D a 5-5 draw at Wirral.

 

 

 

Both daughters of Dave Griffith are registering achievements of note:13 year old Rebekah recently came second in the cadet regional trials and qualifiess for the nationals next March. Another record set must surely be the appearance of 6 year old Abigail for OTTC C this week. Although she was unable to register the future of junior table tennis looks bright.

JOHN MAKES HIS MARK

 

John Mark was in excellent form for Unison D in their Div 4 table topper at leaders Coldhurst D. His unbeaten stint was ably backed by a Denis Heyes double with Terry Holland replying likewise in the 5-5 draw.

A Hitesh Kanji maximum backed by a Prakesh Bhojani double for Deaf Club contributed to a 6-4 win over Uppermill C for whom Howard Meadham notched two.

Coldhurst F registered their first win of the season edging Failsworth E 6-4. A Dave Varney treble backed by a John Greenwood double paved the way to victory with Fred Pickles responding with a double.

A Richard Pullen maximum helped Owls B share the points with Saddleworth CC for whom Peter Skuse and Wayne Rawstron notched doubles.

 

In Div 1 champions OTTC A can probably ill afford to lose any more this season after a 6-4 reverse at the hands of their B team. Mark Ramsbottom and Glen Payne posted doubles for the A whilst Dave Griffith and Gary Skinner replied similarly.

Maximums from Dave Hamilton and Paul Rowbotham helped Honeywell A to a comfortable 7-3 win at Hollinwood A.

Title contenders BAE A inflicted a 10-0 win over Hollinwood B. Tom Lang, Tony Smith and Peter Bradford being responsible for the formality.

Unbeaten stints from Daryl Meredith and Nick Mooney backed by an Ian McLean double were the foundation of the 9-1 win over lowly Rosehill B.

 

In Div 2 Hollinwood E did their survival prospects no harm whatsoever after an 8-2 win over Failsworth B. Gary Newton trebled backed by doubles from Harry Ross and John Foster with Paul Whyatt replying likewise.

Pennine are edging further towards the comfort zone after a 7-3 win at Hollinwood D. John Robertson was unbeaten backed by a Glen Chadwick double.

First Transport and Honeywell C shared the points in a match which saw the rapidly improving Adam Rowbotham post two with Ian Naylor registering similarly and Ken Hayes replying likewise in a match of high quality.

Trebles from Steve Lyons and Denis Bradshaw backed by a Vernon Hyde double helped Hyde YM B to a 9-1 win over Failsworth A.

 

The match of the week in division 3 saw the top two lock horns. Uppermill B became the new leaders by virtue of a 6-4 win over Werneth D. Peter Watson was unbeaten backed by a Keith Moores double with Alan Else also posting two.

Third placed Honeywell D had doubles posted by their trio of Ken Dunkerley, Derek Naylor and Aaron Rowbotham in the 7-3 win at Unison C for whom the treble of Steve Slater was to no avail.

The in –form Failsworth C are making strides up the table after a 9-1 win over Coldhurst B. Derek Buckley and Ray Woods were unbeaten backed by a Jack Greenwood double.

A Martin Nicholls maximum helped Gilders A share the points with Owls A for whom Dave Harthan and Paul Woodward notched doubles.
